Critical Incident Stress Management: ( www.icisf.org ) This is an after-incident psychological first aid model initially designed for first responders.

It has since been expanded to include protocols for schools, hospitals and clinics, and businesses. This includes a recognition that the staff of any organization are the first responders, trained or not, for any critical incident at their facility.

By reviewing both the incident and your reactions in a structured way, preferably with others who were present at the incident, the feelings of helplessness and isolation can be tested against fact and avoid becoming long term patterns.

This is usually done once or twice per incident only and is not a method of ongoing therapy.
